背部は淡褐色、腹部は白色で中央に黄色のラインが入り、色合いは美しい。

体表背部に白色の網目模様が波しぶきのように散らばっている。

膨らみの少ない長楕円の体形をしている。

肝臓・卵巣に猛毒、皮膚と腸に強毒、筋肉に弱毒をもつ。調理はフグ免許が必要。
