背部は鶯色、腹部は青みを帯びた光沢のある銀白色をしている。

細長い円筒形をしているが、やや角張った体形をしている。

肛門の位置によって魚名が異なるようです。

汽水域に生息するので「ボライワシ」や「イソイワシ」とも呼ばれる。

The color of the backside of the body is greenish brown, and the abdomen is silver-white on blue with the luster.
