体色は、全体的に灰褐色をしている。

ふくらみのある体形をしているが、尾柄がすこぶる細い。

体表上部には、胡麻斑が多数見られるのも特徴です。

尾柄に黒棘が二つあるので、別名「二の字」とも呼ばれる。

The color of the body is grayish brown generally.

The shape of the body is swelling but the basal part of the tail fin is very thin.

Another feature is that there are a lot of black-spottedness on the upper surface of the body.
